Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant, founded a dry goods business in San Francisco in 1852 during the California Gold Rush. Recognizing the need for durable clothing for laborers, he partnered with tailor Jacob Davis to combine copper rivets with strong denim fabric, resulting in the creation of the first waist overalls in 1873. Today, these iconic pieces are known as "blue jeans."
